On the first festival day of the 10th edition of Budapest Ritmo, the musical idioms will range from free-spirited pop to poignant ballads, from Anatolia to Amsterdam, and from Porto Inglês to Nagyecsed. The great double bills of the evening could be the band of Hungarian singer-songwriter Balázs Szabó and the Kurdish minstrel, Ali Doğan Gönültaş; the Dutch disco-gospel act, Arp Frique & The Perpetual Singers vis-à-vis the Anatolian psychedelic group, Altın Gün; and Carmen Souza, who blends the music of Cape Verde with classical jazz, complemented by FÜLÜ, who agitate in animal masks.

These concerts of the Bartók Spring are presented by Müpa Budapest as a joint event with Hangvető.

What has never taken place at Ritmo will certainly happen now at the 10th edition, on Saturday: the most authentic interpreter of the southern Italian trance dance, the pizzica, Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino will kick off the evening with a collaboration with the band of percussionist Máté A. Kovács; the voice of Ríoghnach Connolly, one half of the Irish folk duo The Breath cannot but bring tears of catharsis; Nusantara Beat will drop an unexpected bomb of Indonesian psych grooves, to be followed by Michelle Gurevich’s charmingly languorous and life-affirming songs. MORDÁI will crown the evening with some fireworks of fusion music, and Las Lloronas will raise stakes even higher with their intimate compositions. Needless to say, you can feel free to mix and match the components of Ritmo, because as we have promised, everyone can find new favourites.
